Searching for a thrilling adventure? Then the search is over! Visit the beautiful archipelago of Indonesia and take this amazing volunteering opportunity where you get to work alongside rangers and over 5000 Komodo Dragons!

This program takes you to a stunning island experience where you would assist the rangers at the Komodo National Park and get face to face with giant Komodo Dragons. Your role would be to participate as an assistant ranger and support in conserving this unique UNESCO Heritage site. With that said, this will be the most exciting and unforgettable experience you have ever had! 
Komodo National Park (KNP) was set up to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat. The initiation has also covered the importance of conserving the marine ecosystems and various other endangered species living here. The park also promotes the sustainability of natural resources for tourism, fisheries and research. Your program at the Komodo National Park involves working with the staff of the national park to help conserve the flora and fauna of this unique ecosystem. The minimum duration offered is 1 week and the maximum duration is 4, however, we can extend your stay if you so desire. Come take this chance now and have an adventure of a lifetime!

  • Key Start Dates
    Year round however, you should keep in mind that the project requires applicants to arrive on a  Sunday between 06:00 - 20:00! If applicants arrive on any other day, they will have to arrange their own transfers.

  • Who Are They Looking For?
    Individuals who have a passion for environment and is interested in conservation. Being hardworking, motivated, mature and initiative are some qualities you must possess. You must have a good knowledge of English and good communicating skills, must also have a good attitude and outlook to learn and experience new and novel things. We will not tolerate smoking, alcohol or the use of drugs. Please remember that you are a guest, therefore, respecting the rules of the project is essential.

      You can expect to share a room (dormitory style) on single gender basis. The bathroom is shared, and western style lavatories are available.

Indonesian food is tasty and diverse, and you can expect to experience a myriad of flavors and meals during your stay. Typical dishes included Mie Goreng (fried noodles and vegetables), Nasi Goreng (fried rice and vegetables) or Gado Gado (mixed vegetables with a satay sauce). For those who do not eat meat, Indonesian cooking uses a lot of tofu and tempeh (soybeans), we also provide for some western dishes. Breakfasts are varied and include pancakes, fresh fruit, toast etc.
    • Airport Pick up

      You need to fly into (LBJ) Komodo Airport. After passing through customs and outside, our representative will be waiting for you at the arrival gate. Please look for your name board. Please note, as soon as your flights are booked you must notify us with your flight details, so we can arrange for you to be picked up (flight number and airline are very important in case your flight is delayed, our staff then knows what time you will be arriving). You may need to wait for several participants to arrive before the group leaves the airport. Please be aware that the Saturday morning 11:00 is departure time. We do not offer drop to the airport or any other location at the end of the participant’s program due to the many different personal plans and return flight times that participants have.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    Volunteers at the project in Indonesia are the backbone of the organization. They are the main force behind the project's mission to conserve the Flora and Fauna of one of the world’s most niche UNESCO Heritage sites. As a volunteer, you will actively participate in the daily routine of the facility by participating in the following activities:

    • Join with the Rangers during treks with tourist groups. Help the rangers to research and record information.
    • Prepare various kinds of educational materials such as posters, notices, maps etc. Engage in any other tasks required by the park.
    • In the evening, you will teach the rangers to improve their skills in English.
     
  • Requirements, Guidelines & Policies
    • Required to commit to a minimum of 1 week.
    • Must have an interest in field work, wildlife, the environment and conservation.
    • All participants will require a certain level of fitness and must be able to do physical work. This program will not suit participants who are afraid of wild fauna and insects or don’t wish to do physical work. Must be motivated and take initiative.
    • Age: 18+
    • Must have Intermediate knowledge of the English language and confident in speaking it. Participant who take part in the program should provide their resumes and passport copies at least 4 weeks prior to arrival in order to get their placements accepted.
    • Participants are strictly advised to adhere to the rules and regulations of the park and any kind of breach of rules will not be tolerated. It is mandatory to send the criminal background check for all the participants 2 weeks prior to the arrival date.
    • All the participants would be required to read, understand and sign the rules and regulations and code of conduct before commencing the program. All the participants are expected to follow instructions and advice given by the coordinators and highly maintain discipline and adherence to the rules and regulations and safety measures taken by the park.
    • SAFETY COMES FIRST. In order to ensure the safety of the participants and uninterrupted continuation of the program, any breach of rules, misconduct and negligence to follow instructions would not be tolerated and may result in immediate termination of the entire program without any refund.

      Excellent place to go wildlife viewing at the National Park, many opportunities to see wildlife like Orangutans, gibbons, long tailed macques, tigers, elephants, wide range of birds and of course the king of Indonesia which is the Komodo Dragon!
      • Itinerary & Details
        Day 1 - Arrive in Indonesia; 
        You need to fly into (LBJ) Komodo Airport. After passing through customs and outside, our representative will be waiting for you at the arrival gate. Please look for your name board. You may need to wait for several participants to arrive before the group leaves the airport. 
        For  - 4 weeks – Work as a volunteer at our conservation project based in Indonesia!
        For a minimum of 1 week to a maximum stay of 4 weeks you will be volunteering in Indonesia by assisting the conservation programs of the Komodo National park and helping the Rangers in improving their skills.
        Your last day - You will be dropped off at a specific location where you can take a ride back to the airport to catch you plane back home or take the opportunity to travel through Indonesia. Our staff will gladly work with the project to help you book any tours to see more of this great country. 
      • Accommodation

        You can expect to share a room (dormitory style) on single gender basis. The bathroom is shared, and western style lavatories are available.

        Things to bring from home

        • Happy, outgoing attitude and willingness to learn new things. Clothes for summer for warm temperatures. Make sure that these clothes are allowed to get dirty, comfortable walking shoes and wet shoes/reef shoes are essential, and you should also pack a raincoat and some sun block, Backpack and headlight/torch, waterproof pouches or bag.
        • You will need approximately 250.000 IDR (approximately $20 USD) per week for treats, souvenirs or personal expenses such as a SIM card and toiletries.
        • Take some US dollars and/or local currency in small denominations with you for immediate expenses after arrival.

        Location

        This project is located in the city of Labuan Bajo. laundries, groceries and restaurants are all at a walking distance from the project site. Wifi is available for use and so is a data plan for mobile phones. There are also ATMs and mini marts close by! Since the weekends are free, you can go wherever you please. Famous for its legendary Komodo dragons, this location in Indonesia offers you a unique experience which you cannot get from anywhere else in the world. The places of interest includes; Komodo National Park, Kelimutu lake, tribal villages and much more.
