The Experience

Do you like wide open space and country life? Would you like to experience this the Brazilian way? Then Brazil Ranch exchange program is for you!

Experience ranching in around the Roraima state in wide open space, quietness, Freedom, with no big city lights, horses, cattle and other animals. Ranchers and farmers are looking for volunteers who are willing to experience this way of life and at the same time learn about their rich culture through their family. Brazil is known for football, its music, beers, food and people.

You will be living out of town on the ranch with the family and be involved in all activities, this can be from going to the city to shop, to attending local fairs or rodeos. Your job is to helping take care of their animals while learning a few skills. Horse riding, cattle round up and gardening are three of the most common activities you will be involve in. Others will come along while on the ranch. Its is an experience and a half because you will learn Portuguese, you will learn about ranching and farming in generally and you will have a new family in Brazil.

      One of our representatives will meet you at the airport, take you around if you need to get money or anything from the stores and drop you off at your project. When your time is up either the ranch family will take you to the airport of our representative.
    • Mail and Communications

      It is possible to receive and send mail from the town of Lethem via our Fronteering representative, however the postal service is very variable in such a remote area and the process regularly takes over a month. It is not unheard of never to reach it's destination! There will be internet connection and cell phone reception in both Georgetown and Lethem. The ranch is very remote and the only communication is by transistor radio and satellite phone which are used for emergencies only.

      If there are any problems with your volunteer project we are always there to help you and mediate between yourself and the organization.

      Through FRONTEERING you have the possibility to book tours, Spanish (at nearby Isla Magaritha) and English Courses in Guyana before and/or after you have finished your volunteer project.

    • RESPONSIBILITIES

      As volunteers at the ranch you will have some of the following responsibilities: 

      • Feeding and Grooming the animals 
      • Cleaning the stables
      • Gardening
      • Helping prepare meals
      • Giving salt to the cows
      • TASK AND DUTIES

        This Ranch exchange program will give volunteers the opportunity to not only enjoy the country side but also learn about the rich Brazilian culture while helping to take care of the ranch. Volunteers can also help to develop the ranch or farm with any ideas that they think can make life easier for the ranchers or Farmers. Duties and tasks will vary depending on what the owners have in mind

    • Requirements, Guidelines & Policies
      Some if the requirements for this project are:
      • Strong work ethics are required: Responsible, honest, good sense of humour. Physically and mentally fit, Reliable 
      • Age: 18 and over. There is no upper age limit but good health is essential for this project.
      • Must love animals/outdoors and no animal allergies
      • Living in a remote area must be something you can handle.
      • No experience required but must be comfortable to work around animals, Must know basic Portuguese or must learn a few before arriving and must at all time let someone know when you are leaving the ranch.

      Some of the best in the world, however spotting wildlife can be difficult. 
  • Itinerary & Details
    Day 1 - Arrive in Boa Vista Roraima, Brazil;
    You will arrive in Boa Vista where you will be met, then taken to do some small errnads such as light shopping, etc. then you'll be transported to the project 
    For 3-12 weeks - Live on a Ranch and provide assistance!
    For the next 3 to 12 weeks live on a ranch and experience their daily life while learning new cultures, traditions, make new friends and experience the exquisite cuisine.
    Your last day -
    you will be transfered back to the airport where you will catch your flight back home. If you intend to stay in Brazil to do some tours, our staff will gladly help you to book any tours to see more of this fascinating country.
  • Accommodation

    You will have a private room or a cabin either with the family or other workers on the farm. Please make sure you keep you room and bathroom clean.

    Meals

    Meals will be prepared by the family and sometime with your help. Coffee is a must but if you are not a coffee lover tea is available, Breakfast would usually be bacon/ham or cheese with eggs and fruits. Brazilians love to cook and one of the main type of methods of cooking they love is roasting. So, for lunch it would usually be beans, macaroni and rice with a salad and farine and either roast chicken, fish

    or beef. If you feel to eating something else other than what they prepare you can always stock up when you travel with them to the supermarket.
